Thomas “Tom” Hall Carter

Mar 10, 1954 — Sep 10, 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of Thomas “Tom” Hall Carter announces his peaceful passing on September 10, 2026, at 72 years. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and spent his later years living in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Tom was a proud graduate of Independence High School and North Carolina State University College of Engineering. He had retired from a 45-year career as a commercial contractor. He will be remembered as a gifted negotiator who believed a handshake meant something, for his extraordinary generosity, and for his belief that everyone deserved a second chance.

He loved playing golf and scuba diving with friends, and he took just as much joy in retelling the stories and adventures that came from those times together. Tom was a huge fan of Carolina Panthers football and Carolina Hurricanes hockey. However, there is nothing he loved more than spending time with his daughters, and watching them grow and succeed in life.

Tom leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Linda, daughters Rachel and Katherine (Kate), his beloved canine pal, Georgie, and many loving family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, James D. Carter Sr. and Mary Jane Thomas Carter, and his older brother James (Donnie) Donald Carter Jr.

The family will receive family and friends from 2pm to 3:30pm Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 with a prayer service following in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to hold your loved ones close and cherish the time you have together.
