James Carlyle Russell
Feb 2, 1947 — Sep 23, 2026
James “Jim” Carlyle Russell, age 79, passed away in Monterey, California. Born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Jim lived a life that touched the hearts of the people around him and created memories that his family will carry with them for years to come.
Jim was a proud United States Army Vietnam veteran. His service to his country was a meaningful part of his life, and his family will always be grateful for the sacrifice and dedication he gave through his military service.
Those who knew Jim knew that he had his own special way of enjoying life. He was a devoted San Francisco 49ers fan, and he loved his music and movies. These simple things brought him happiness and gave his family many memories to hold onto. Whether talking about the 49ers, listening to music, watching a favorite movie, or simply spending time with family, Jim will be remembered for the moments he shared with the people he loved.
To his family, Jim was more than an uncle, brother, or relative—he was a part of the family’s story and a familiar presence whose absence will be deeply felt. The memories of his voice, his personality, the conversations shared, and the moments spent together will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jackie and Lloyd Paris; his beloved wife, Marie Russell; and his brother, Ron Russell.
He leaves behind his brother, Bob Paris; his niece, Shonna Stafford, and her husband, Michael Stafford; his nephew, Derek Paris, and his wife, Wendy Paris; his nephew, Joshua Paris, and his wife, Samantha Paris; his niece, Desiree Shaw; his nephew, Curtis Russell; and many great-nieces and great-nephews who will continue to carry his memory forward.
Although saying goodbye is never easy, Jim’s life will not be defined by his passing, but by the memories and love he leaves behind. He will be remembered as a beloved uncle, brother, husband, veteran, and family member whose place in the hearts of those who loved him can never be replaced.
Rest peacefully, Uncle Jim. Your life mattered, you were loved, and you will be missed more than words can say. Your memory will live on in the family you leave behind and in all the stories and memories we will continue to share.
Jim will be cremated, with his final resting place at Fort Ord, California, where he will be laid to rest with the honor he earned through his service to our country.
