John Scott Rainwater

John Scott Rainwater, of Hoschton, Georgia, passed away on August 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 13, 1955, in Greenville, South Carolina.

John will be remembered as a devoted man of faith who loved God and worshiped Him. His love for his family was at the center of his life. He dedicated 33.5 years to law enforcement, a career that reflected his commitment to service and his dedication to helping others. Beyond his professional career, John enjoyed umpiring softball, a role that allowed him to remain involved in his community and connected with others.

Above all, John's life was deeply rooted in the people he loved most. He is survived by his wife, Diane Rainwater, his spouse of 52 years. He is also survived by his son, Brian Rainwater; his daughter, Susie Jolley and her husband, Brandon Jolley; and his daughter, Barbie Simmons and her husband, Brian Simmons. John's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Abbi Rainwater, Marleigh Jane Rainwater, Carter Jolley, Rhett Jolley, Maddux Simmons, Cooper Simmons, and Jaxx Simmons, who brought him great joy and were a cherished part of his life. John is also survived by his older sister Judith Rainwater Sanders, and beloved Natalie Rainwater, mother of Abbi and Marleigh Jane.

He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Rainwater, Sr.; his mother, Barbara Shumate Rainwater; and his brother, Jack Rainwater.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at North Metro Baptist Church, located at 1047 GA-124, Hoschton, GA 30548 Sunday, August 30, 2026 between 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. A memorial service will also be held at North Metro Baptist Church Sunday, August 30, 2026 on 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of John's life.
