Mabel Sullivan Cooley

Jun 8, 1937 — Nov 14, 2025

Mabel Sullivan Cooley, born in Welston, Georgia, on June 8, 1937, passed away on November 14, 2025, after a brief illness at the age of 88. She was very much loved by her children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Alma Sullivan, a brother, James Sullivan, and by her loving husband, Eddy S. Cooley, whom she loved dearly and a tiny grandson, Aaron Taylor Pulsifer. Even though she never got to know this little baby, she loved him as she loved all of her grandchildren.

Mabel leaves behind a devoted family who will cherish many memories of family gatherings. She is survived by her sister, Irene Guest and by her children: Larry Cooley (Terri), Debra Scarbrough, Steve Cooley (Michele), Janet Phillips (Herbert), Kimberly Cooley, 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

At the age of 83, Mabel made the most important decision of her life to follow Jesus.  Her family is so grateful that she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  We are so comforted by this and know that our mom is now made whole in heaven.

Mabel was a homemaker, a master seamstress and spent countless hours sewing for her family.  She crocheted beautiful blankets and doilies that won blue ribbons at the Georgia National Fair. Her baby blankets are treasured by her children and grandchildren.

Even though Mabel was a homebody, she spent many enjoyable hours a day talking with old friends on the phone. I know these friends are already missing her as her children and grandchildren feel a tremendous loss too.

She will forever remain in the hearts of those that loved her. Rest in peace mama.

A celebration of Mabel’s life will be held in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Immediately following the service Mabel will be be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Eddy at Parkway Memorial Gardens. A visitation with family and friends will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home.
