Alfonso Joseph Di Rocco

Alfonse Joseph Di Rocco, 88, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026. Born on January 19, 1938, in Niagara Falls, New York, Alfonse was a proud Italian-American who carried throughout his life a deep appreciation for family, his heritage, community, faith, and the simple pleasure of good conversation.

Alfonse grew up in the Buffalo, New York, area and was a 1955 graduate of Canisius High School, a Jesuit college preparatory school in Buffalo. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Buffalo and later received his master’s degree from SUNY Geneseo.

During his younger years, Alfonse worked alongside his father, Joseph Di Rocco, a building contractor in the Buffalo area. His career would take him down many different and interesting paths. He later worked as a librarian at Alfred State College while also working part-time as a realtor. Ultimately, he became a stockbroker and insurance representative, a career in which he found great satisfaction in helping people plan for their futures and prepare for retirement.

Alfonse had a genuine curiosity about people and an ability to make friends wherever he went. He loved talking with people from all walks of life and rarely passed up an opportunity to socialize over a cup of coffee or a good Italian meal. A gifted storyteller, he could turn an ordinary experience into a memorable tale. Those who knew him will remember not only the stories he told, but the enthusiasm, humor, and personality with which he told them.

He had a particular love for the beautiful landscapes of New York’s Southern Tier. He enjoyed Italian music, film, and food and appreciated the traditions, memories, and connections that came with them. He was also a devoted lover of animals and took great joy in being surrounded by family and friends.

Alfonse was a man of faith and a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala, Florida.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Mader Di Rocco and his children, Kevin Howe, Joseph Di Rocco, David Di Rocco, and Tina Di Rocco Curran, from his marriage to his first wife, Mary Howe Di Rocco, who predeceased him; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

At Alfonse’s request, no formal funeral services will be held. The family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Marion County for their compassionate care and support during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Marion County and/or the Marion County Humane Society.
