Spencer Gordon Corkum

Spencer Gordon Corkum, formerly of Waltham, Massachusetts, and more recently of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at the age of 91.


He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret Elaine "Peggy" (Davis) Corkum.

Spencer graduated from Christian High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts (now Lexington Christian Academy) before earning his degree from the Boston University School of Communications.


He proudly served in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command as an editor of base newspapers. During his military career, he was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida; Thule Air Base in Greenland; and Headquarters, Eighth Air Force in Massachusetts.


Following his military service, Spencer enjoyed a career in communications and writing, pursuits that reflected his lifelong love of words. He made his home in Waltham, Massachusetts, for many years before spending the last years of his life in Ocala, Florida.


Spencer will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Peggy, in the Davis family plot at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham, Massachusetts. A cenotaph will also be placed at Evergreen Cemetery in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, alongside his parents, Gordon and Marion Corkum, who spent their early years in Nova Scotia before making their home in Waltham, Massachusetts.


Spencer will be remembered for his love of writing, his faithful service to his country, his keen intellect, and the many friendships he cherished throughout his life. His kindness, curiosity, and quiet sense of humour will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
