William "Mr. Bill" Hoffmann

Jan 4, 1949 — Oct 13, 2026

William Hoffmann, (77) of Belleview Florida, fondly known as Mr. Bill, passed away on Oct. 13, 2026 at the Ted & Diane Brandley Hospice House, Summerfield Florida.

Bill was born in Decatur, Illinois to Heinz & Elizabeth (Goelitz) Hoffmann on January 4, 1949.

He was a graduate of Millikin University (BA) and Southern Illinois University (MA). Bill worked as a Research Scientist for Upjohn/Pfizer for over 30 years. He was instrumental in developing the drug pramipexole for restless leg syndrome. He retired to Florida in 2010.

He had a carefree spirit and loved to ride his Harley and in later years his Can Am. He was married to his wife, Kim for 31 years and they traveled all over the United States and in Canada riding free to the wind. He enjoyed local rides with the Southern Cruisers Riding Club. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed home projects. Whatever he put his mind to he would accomplish. He loved to share and regale stories about his early, crazy days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Hoffmann. He is survived by his wife Kim Hoffmann of Belleview, Florida; his brother Walter Hoffmann & wife, Janet of Raleigh, North Carolina and his sister Elizabeth (Liz) Dillon of Decatur, Illinois, as well at countless nephews and nieces and their families.

Bill’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to his caregivers for the past several years. Kory Lehor, who has been a compassionate caregiver, constant source of support and became a friend to Bill. Also, to Sarah Weaver who was a giving spirit and provided loving care to him. Lastly, our sincere thank you to the Brandley Hospice House for making Bill’s last hours comfortable and peaceful.

There will be no public visitation; cremation will take place at Heirs Baxley Funeral Home. As per Bill’s wishes, his ashes will be spread in the places that he loved.

Bill’s free spirit and zest/fight in life serves as an inspiration to all those that knew him. We’ll drink a mudslide in your honor and toast to a life well lived or as you would have said “Rode hard and put away wet!” Sail away Sparky and ride on Mr. Bill….you were loved and will be missed more than tongues can tell.

Memorial contributions may be made to one of his passions, the Wounded Warrior Project, to the Brandley Hospice House of Summerfield or to a Hospice House in your area.
