Alice Marie Buffington, 94, of Ocala, Florida, met the Lord and was reunited with her beloved husband, William “Bill” Buffington, on September 12, 2026.Marie, as she was known to family and friends, was born and raised in Ocala, Florida, to Perry and Mary (Abney) Owen. She was a lifelong Seventh-day Adventist. Marie attended Ocala High School, where she was a member of the Anchor Club and met the love of her life, William “Bill” Buffington.

Marie and Bill married in 1949 and began building a life, family, and business together. They owned and operated the shoe departments within E. Colin Lindsey’s Belk-Lindsey department stores throughout the state of Florida. Their business operated as Buffington Enterprises, Inc.Marie and Bill shared a wonderful life centered around their family. Marie also fell in love with Sky Valley, Georgia, where they established a second home and spent 23 memorable years.

Marie loved her family dearly and was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She remained close to her extended family throughout her life, as family was always of the utmost importance to her.

Marie is survived by her son, Bill Buffington Jr. (Molly); her grandchildren, Suzanne (Francisco) Diaz, William “Beau” Buffington III, and Lauren (Christophal) Hellewell; her great-grandchildren, Ashley Diaz, Christian Diaz, and McKenzie Hellewell; her siblings, Perry Owen Jr. and Mary Anna Robertson; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, William “Bill” Buffington; her parents, Perry and Mary Alice Owen; and her sister, Frances.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Barnes Cemetery. Pastor Steve Redman will officiate.
