Betty Jean Filer

Sep 30, 1932 — Aug 8, 2026

Betty Jean Filer, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, partner, sister, and dear friend, passed away on August 8, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born in Istachatta, Florida, on September 30, 1932, Betty was a woman who lived her 93 years with a beautiful combination of kindness, humor, strength, and a little bit of sass. She graduated from Ocala High School and spent her life creating a home and a family filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories.

Betty worked as a bookkeeper for Sears, Ocala Lumber, and Better Builders. She was a hardworking and dependable woman who took pride in all that she did.

Betty had a zest for life and enjoyed so many things. She loved bowling, reading, challenging puzzles, fishing, cooking, traveling, and camping. She especially loved her some crab legs! But as much as she enjoyed her hobbies and adventures, nothing meant more to Betty than spending time with the people she loved.

She was loving and kind, but she was also sassy, funny, and never afraid to share a good laugh. Betty had a way of making people feel comfortable and loved, and her presence brought warmth and joy wherever she went. Her laughter, her humor, and her unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her loving partner, Gene Filer; her daughters, Wendy (Doug) and Sheri (David); her grandchildren, Tyler (RJ), Austin (Holly), Keesha (Todd), and Kelly; her great-grandchildren, Kallie, Kelsey, Katelyn, Hope, and Sarah; and her great-great-grandchildren, Alexis, Skyler, Kyler, Elijah, and Genevive.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dorothy and Harley Creaser, her sister, Evelyn and her dear friends, Del, Dot, and Shirley, whose friendship and companionship were so meaningful throughout her life.

Her greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely and the family she leaves behind. She will be remembered in the laughter around the dinner table, the stories shared, the family gatherings, the adventures taken, and in all the little moments that made life special.

Betty's life was a gift to those who knew and loved her. Though her chair may now be empty and her voice quiet, the love she gave will never leave. It will live on in her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, her great-great-grandchildren, and in the hearts of every friend whose life she touched.

She was deeply loved. She will be greatly missed. And she will never be forgotten.
