Cheryl Lanette Becker, affectionately known to those who loved her for her beautiful smile, quick laugh, and zest for life, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, friendship, and cherished memories.

Born on November 18, 1950, in Oakes, North Dakota, Cheryl was raised in Hecla, South Dakota, where she attended Hecla High School and graduated with the Class of 1969. From an early age, Cheryl possessed a warmth and joy that seemed to follow her wherever she went. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, loved, and part of the moment.

Cheryl was truly young at heart. She was fun-loving, quick to laugh, and rarely seen without her beautiful smile. She had an unmistakable zest for life and a personality that could light up any room. If there was music playing, Cheryl was likely to be among the first on the dance floor. She loved good music, a good glass of wine, a beautiful mountain view, and, of course, a good round of golf. She embraced life fully and encouraged those around her to do the same.

Professionally, Cheryl worked in the medical field and found great success in medical sales. She was admired for her dedication, professionalism, and ability to connect with people. After a fulfilling career, she eventually retired, allowing her to spend even more time doing what mattered most to her—enjoying life and being with the people she loved.

But above all of her accomplishments and interests, Cheryl’s greatest joy was her family. Her three daughters and three grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with family and friends, and with Cheryl, it was almost always a good time. Her laughter, energy, stories, and genuine love created memories that will remain with her family for generations.

Cheryl is survived by her beloved daughters, Kathleen Hernandez (Becker), married to Pino Hernandez; Kimberly Becker; and Karena Whitehead (Becker), married to Todd Whitehead; and her cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Becker Hernandez, engaged to fiancé Dylan Geiger; Benjamin Whitehead, and Evelyn Whitehead. She is also survived by her siblings, Bradley Hewitt, Cindy Seath, and Cathe Bentley, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip J. Becker; her parents, Walter and Hazel Hewitt; her sister, Peggy Dyer; and her beloved granddaughter, Olivia Becker Hernandez.

Cheryl’s life was a celebration of love, family, friendship, music, laughter, and simply enjoying the moment. She had a way of making ordinary moments memorable and bringing a little more light into every room she entered. Her beautiful smile and infectious laughter will be deeply missed, but the joy she brought into the lives of others will never be forgotten.

Though she is no longer here to take her place on the dance floor, cheer from the sidelines, enjoy a round of golf, admire the mountains, or raise a glass with the people she loved, Cheryl’s spirit will live on in every laugh, every song, every family gathering, and every memory shared.

She lived with a zest for life, loved with her whole heart, and left the world brighter simply by being in it.

Services:

A viewing and time of remembrance will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home on the Boulevard on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., with a reception to follow immediately afterward.

A burial ceremony will be held at Highland Memorial Park on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.

Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Cheryl’s remarkable life, share stories, laugh, remember, and honor the woman who brought so much love and joy into the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
