Frank John Alioto
Aug 8, 1929 — Oct 3, 2026
Frank John Alioto, age 97, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on October 3, 2026, in Ocala, Florida. Born at home on August 8, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, Frank lived a life defined by courage, integrity, service, and unwavering devotion to his family.
At just 17 years old, Frank joined the United States Army, proudly serving as a paratrooper. That same determination, discipline, and exceptional work ethic carried him through an extraordinary career with the New York City Police Department. Rising through the ranks, he became a highly respected Homicide Detective Lieutenant Commander, investigating many high-profile homicide cases throughout the 1970s. His leadership, sharp instincts, and relentless pursuit of justice earned him the admiration of colleagues and the trust of the community he served.
Following his retirement from the NYPD, Frank and his beloved wife, Marion, made their home in Ocala, Florida. Retirement, however, did not slow his commitment to public service. He joined the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a Lieutenant before embarking on a second retirement. Even then, his expertise remained invaluable, and he continued to work on an elite cold case team as a Marion County Sheriff’s ICE Agent.
Frank’s investigative accomplishments extended well beyond his official titles. His leading role in the murder investigation chronicled in the book Murder at the Wayside Antiques brought national attention to his work, and he was also featured on America’s Most Wanted. Yet despite his distinguished career and numerous achievements, Frank remained remarkably humble. He never sought recognition, choosing instead to let his actions speak for themselves.
To the world, Frank was an accomplished law enforcement officer and a respected investigator. To his family, he was a quiet hero. He possessed an incredibly sharp mind, an infallible memory, a quick wit, and a wonderful sense of humor that brought laughter to every gathering. His wisdom, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Frank shared 75 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Marion. Together they built a family that was the pride and joy of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Marion; his daughters, Deborah, Claudia, Susan (Ace), and Amy; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom carry forward his legacy of strength, resilience, and love.
Frank John Alioto leaves behind a legacy not only of justice served and lives protected but of a family deeply loved. His life reminds us that true heroes do not seek the spotlight—they quietly make the world a better place through their character, their sacrifice, and their love.
He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always honored.
