George Paul Phelps, 81, of Ocala, FL, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2026. George was born on July 23, 1945, in Brooklyn, NY, to his loving parents Nicholas and Eleanor (Williams) Phelps.

George was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, he served for 3 years and fought in the Vietnam War. He continued dedicating his life to keeping citizens safe in his work as a Police Officer with the NYPD. After 18 years of service, George retired as a sergeant.

Following his retirement in 1985, George and his wife, Barbara, relocated to Florida. The two became devout members of Our Lady of the Springs Church; George was also in the Knights of Columbus and Ocala VFW.

George enjoyed spending his time on cruises, traveling with his beloved wife, and playing golf in his retirement. Above all else, George loved being a grandfather. He treasured his time with his grandchildren, taking them on trips to Disney and sharing his jokes. George was quite the social butterfly; he never met a stranger and genuinely loved to make others laugh. He never forgot a good joke and always made sure to brighten up someone's day with it.

George will be remembered fondly and missed dearly by his precious family. He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Barbara Phelps, his children; Nicole (Gordon) Ramsey and George Phelps, and his dear grandchildren, Paige and Ethan.
