Paul G Chaisson
Jun 10, 1937 — Oct 19, 2026
Paul G. Chaisson, Sr., a proud U.S. Army veteran, devoted husband, and cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born on June 10, 1937, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Paul was the son of Arthur and Irene Chaisson and one of 12 children. He graduated from Newburyport High School, where he played football and baseball. At age 18, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines. After completing his military service, his love of football led him to accept a football scholarship in Louisiana.
On August 22, 1959, Paul married the love of his life, Caryl J. Pratt, of Amesbury, Massachusetts. With over 60 years of marriage, they built a beautiful life grounded in family, friendship, travel, and adventure. Paul began his career in the gas and plumbing industry before embarking on a 28-year career with the U.S. Department of Defense. His work provided his family the opportunity to travel the world, embrace diverse cultures, as well as adding life-long friends. While working for the federal government, Paul earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland.
Following his government retirement, Paul and Caryl moved to North Port, Florida to enjoy the sunshine and be closer to family. He established a lawn maintenance business and helped with installing flooring.
Paul enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, as well as following his favorite sports. He was a skilled woodworker who crafted several beautiful furniture pieces, enjoyed crafting alongside Caryl, and was a natural problem-solver with a knack for overcoming any challenge. They continued to travel, make new friends, and share adventures together until Caryl’s passing in 2020.
Paul lived by the principles of hard work, dedication, integrity, perseverance, and a strong Catholic faith—values he faithfully demonstrated and instilled in his children.
Paul is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Caryl; his parents, Arthur Francis Chaisson and Irene Froton-Chaisson; his siblings, Anne Marie Manson (Donald), Patricia Fern (Oscar), Francis Arthur Chaisson Jr., Irene Crisham (Robert), Leonard Chaisson (Barbara), Suzanne Reed, and Gilbert Chaisson; his sister-in-law Andrea Chaisson; and his brother-in-laws, Blyn Tilley, William Pratt and Brent Cronin.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Laurie Pierce (Kevin White) of Ocala, Florida, and Diane Buckenheimer (Dave) of Beaver, Pennsylvania; and his son, Paul G. Chaisson, Jr. (Jean) of St. Augustine, Florida. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Andrea (John), David (Alyssa), Stephanie, Kristi, Kelly (Anthony), Tommy, Monica, and Johnny; five great-grandchildren: Camren, David, Leighton, Vivienne, and Ainsley; and his siblings, Lawrence Chaisson, Carolyn Shephard (Dave), Catherine Jackson (Scott), and Betty Tilley; and sister-in-laws, Patricia Chaisson, Sheila Ryan (Steve), Karen Cronin, and Patricia Pratt; and brother-in-law Timothy Pratt.
Paul will be remembered for his service to his country, his deep devotion to his wife and family, his welcoming nature, his love of sports and travel, and his resourcefulness. His legacy of strong values and fond memories will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
A service celebrating the life of Paul, will be scheduled for a future date. Details will be announced when arrangements are finalized. Please visit the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services website for updates.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or St. Jude in Paul’s name to celebrate his legacy of service and community.
