Ruth Virginia Donath, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, in Ormond Beach, Florida. Born on November 30, 1937, in Crystal River, Florida, Ruth’s life was a tapestry woven with love, faith, and unwavering kindness.

A proud graduate of Ocala High School, class of 1955, Ruth devoted a significant part of her career as a Supervisor at the Volusia County Property Appraiser Office. Her dedication and commitment were a reflection of her strong work ethic and her caring nature.

Those who knew Ruth remember her as one of the sweetest and friendliest souls. Her very strong faith in Christ was a guiding force throughout her life, she was a proud member Riverbend Community Church for over 25 years. She was affectionately known by nearly all her family as “Nanny.” She held her family close to her heart, delighting especially in the joy of Christmas gatherings, where her warmth and spirit shone brightest. One of her treasured moments was proudly supporting her granddaughter Darian during her barrel racing career—a memory that brought her immense happiness.

Ruth’s passions extended beyond family; she was a devoted fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Dolphins, often sharing the excitement of the games with her loved ones. More than anything, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren, nurturing bonds that will endure through the years.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Louis Donath; daughters Cindy Bisland (Jack) and Melody Dearborn; granddaughter Lynne Squires; great-grandson Austin Gilley; sisters Dot Buchanan and Bettye Poole; and nephew Murray Smith. Their lives were enriched by her unwavering love and gentle spirit.

Ruth was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter Darian Dearborn and brother Art Johnston, whose memories she kept close to her heart.

A funeral service to honor Ruth Virginia Donath’s remarkable life will be held on May 15, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala, Florida. At 910 East Silver Springs Boulevard, this gathering will be a heartfelt farewell to a woman whose sweetness and strength touched so many.

Though Ruth has departed from this earthly realm, the legacy of her love, faith, and kindness remains steadfast among all who were privileged to know her. She leaves behind a family who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts, a family who lovingly called her Nanny—a name synonymous with warmth, devotion, and an immeasurable love that will endure always.
