Virginia Booker Mills

Virginia Booker Mills, a beloved member of her community and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, in Ocala, Florida. Born on September 2, 1933, in Independence, Missouri, Virginia’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and an enduring spirit.

Graduating from William Chrisman High School in May 1951, Virginia embarked immediately on a new chapter, marrying John W. (Buck) Mills in August of that same year. Her strong family ties and commitment to those she loved remained a defining feature of her life. She is survived by her son, John R. (Rick) Mills and his wife Lydia of Ocala, Florida; and her daughter Virginia Elena Perkins and her husband Bob of Lady Lake, Florida. Virginia's family also extends to six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who all hold fond memories of her kindness and unwavering support.

Virginia was a skilled bookkeeper, diligently managing the accounts for the family business with precision and care. Her professional contributions were marked by integrity and excellence, qualities that earned her deep respect from colleagues and loved ones alike.

Beyond her career, Virginia had a passion for horses and cherished every opportunity to ride. This love for equestrian pursuits brought her joy and a profound connection to nature that she treasured throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Zeno and Helen Booker, her brother Zenos Booker, and stepson Jerry M. Mills. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew Virginia and continue to inspire her family.

In honor of Virginia's life, a visitation will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala, Florida, on May 20, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at the same location from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery, providing a peaceful resting place befitting her gracious and gentle spirit.

Pall bearers will be Bob Perkins and Luke Mills.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the E.W. & Lucille Cates Hospice House.

Virginia Booker Mills was loved by all who knew her, her generous heart and quiet strength leaving a lasting legacy. Her warmth and kindness will be dearly missed but remembered with reverence and affection by her family, friends, and community.
