William Hardy Markham

Mar 4, 1949 — Jun 13, 2026

William Hardee Markham Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 13, 2026.

Born in Ocala, Florida, on March 4, 1949, William spent the majority of his life in Fairfield. He made his living as a mechanic and poured his free time into his passions. He loved the thrill of buying, selling, and restoring classic cars and hot rods, with a particular fondness for 1955 and 1957 models. He was a die-hard fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and spent many years following NASCAR. William was also a true outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. For 28 years, he was a proud member of a hunting club in North Carolina, a state he loved to visit. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing these outdoor adventures with his best friend, JJ Waters. He also enjoyed frying fish for family and friends. Most of all, nothing brought him more joy than the time he spent with his grandson.

His memory will be cherished by his wife of nearly 60 years, JoAnn Markham; his grandson, Austin Markham (along with his girlfriend, Barbie Thompson); his sister-in-law, Ann Bilyou; and a host of close nieces and nephews.

William joins in eternal rest with his parents, Charles and Pauline Markham; his beloved son, William Hardee Markham Jr. ("Bucky"); his sisters, Catherine Kearce and Gloria Jean Sparkman; and his brothers, Stanley Markham, Charles Markham, and Wilbur Bilyou.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life with family and friends.
