Barbara DiMaio

Barbara DiMaio, 91, of The Villages, Fla, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with
Multiple Myeloma on June 29th, 2026, at UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital.
Barbara was born on May 7th, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to Andrew and Pauline Volk. She grew up in
South Ozone Park, Queens and graduated from John Adams High School in 1953. She entered the
workforce at Phizer Inc. as an Administrative Assistant.
On Sept 30, 1956, Barbara married Bernard DiMaio in St Anthony’s Church in South Ozone Park.
Together, they built a life in Ozone Park and raised five children and shared 70 years of marriage.
Barbara re-entered the workforce in 1970 and managed a medical office for 17 years. She then
worked in the Law dept at St John’s University for two years before retiring for good.
Barbara was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed numerous hobbies
and was dedicated to making people smile everyday. She was an avid leader and organizer of
family, neighborhood and community events in Ozone Park, NY, Walker Lake, Pa and The Villages,
Fla.. Most recently she was a member of St Timothy’s Ladies Guild, The Villages Cheerleaders, and
President of the Del Mar Womens Club and “Mayor” of Del Toro Drive. She was known for her
tenacious approach to everything she undertook. She also volunteered at St Timothy’s Food Pantry,
Spanish Plaines Hospital, and a local Hospice. On her local street Del Toro Drive, she welcomed
every newcomer on a personal basis, organized and ran the local Bocce League, organized block
parties, yard sales, and numerous other social events.
Barbara is survived by her spouse, Bernard DiMaio; children, Barbara Ann Rodriguez (Jose
Rodriguez), Michael DiMaio (Rina DiMaio), Robert DiMaio (Monica DiMaio) Richard DiMaio
(Rebecca Cook) Stephen DiMaio (Janice DiMaio); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and
siblings, Donald Volk, Michael Volk, and Mary Ann Frikker. She was preceded in death by her
grandson Daniel DiMaio.
Funeral/Memorial services will be held at
Heirs Baxley Funeral Home (Buffalo Ridge Location)
3975 Wedgewood Lane The Villages, Fla 32159 on Thursday July 23rd at 2-4 pm. A mass will
be held at St Timothy Catholic Church 1351 Paige Place, Lady Lake, Fla 32159 on Friday
July 24th at 10am.
A Repass - Celebration of Life will be held on Friday July 24th at 12-4pm at La Hacienda
Recreation Center1200 Avenida Central, The Villages, Fla 32159
