Joyce N. Gottfried

Joyce (Joy) N. Gottfried, 97, of Summerfield, Fl., passed away on July 18, 2026. Born in Trenton, NJ, in 1929, she was a graduate of Trenton Central High School and retired after 25 years of service from the NJ Department of the Treasury and Attorney General's office in the Justice Department. Previous to that, in 1940's she worked as a fashion model in NYC and also graduated from the Barbizon School of Fashion. Joy moved from Bordentown, NJ to FL in 1991 with her husband, Joseph who predeceased her in death in 2003. Also predeceased was her son Glenn of Ashville, NC, her sister Betty Jane Piazza of NJ, and mother and father, Elizabeth and Joseph Nemeth of Trenton, NJ.

Joyce held president offices in the Bossert Ladies, The Bordentown Chapter of Deborah and Peter Muschal Elementary School in NJ. In FL, she also held presidents' offices in the Gals of the Rio Grande of The Villages, FL, and was a Queen Mum of the Red Hat Reb-Belles, Del Webb Spruce Creek Golf and Country Club. She loved to golf, garden, dance and do jigsaw puzzles.

The last 2 1/2 years she lived in Highpoint of Stonecrest Assisted Living where she made many friends. She enjoyed playing Bingo, meeting her lady friends for dinner and enjoying her evening wine.

Her survivors include sons, Jeffrey (Monica) of NJ, Gregory (Robin), of FL. and daughter Jill (Chuck) VanHyning of Summerfield, FL. Her grandchildren are Justin (Lauren) Ashley (Jim), Gregory Jr. (Dakota) Emily (Chris), Maria, Step-grandson Craig (Chris) of Arizona and Step-granddaughter, Denise (Dave) of NJ, several great-grandchildren, first and second cousins and nieces and nephews.

Burial services will be held at the convenience of the family in Bushnell at Florida National Cemetery, where she will be buried with her husband, Joe. Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
