Lois G. Bennett

The family of Dr. Lois G. Bennett PhD of Oxford, Fl is saddened to announce her death on 8/18/26. This passing came only a few days before her 92nd birthday.

Lois was born in Wayne County, West Virginia on August 24, 1934, to Walter and Adaline (Riggs) Ball. The family relocated to the Akron area of Ohio soon after where Lois would graduate with the Copley High School Class of 1952. Much of her life was spent in Education, for herself and others where she received her first degree from Kent State University in 1968 with more to come until she received her Doctorate in Philosophy in 1987. During that time, Lois owned and operated the Wadsworth Reading Center for a decade. She would go on to work for several years at schools as a counselor specializing in special education. During her life, Lois would wear many hats ranging from a Real Estate Agent to writer, columnist, publisher, and editor. One of her proudest and best-known works being ESSAYS: ON LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE: THE FIRST TWELVE MONTHS published in 2010, detailing her first year after her diagnosis and over a decade of caring for her mother with the same disease.

Despite her illustrious career, Lois still managed to care for her loved ones as the Matriarch of the Ball Family for thirty years. A family including her five younger brothers, three children, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Adaline, her brothers Walter (Cliff), Charles, and Gary, and her special companion for the later years of her life: William “Bill” Jacobs.

She is survived by her two brothers David Ball (Donna) and Larry Ball (Celeste). Her three children: Greg Wilmoth (Cindy), Diane Banks, and Sue Henderson. Her four grandchildren: James Fisher, Jessica Henderson, Stephanie Snyder (Chris), and Steven Henderson. Her seven great-grandchildren: Austin Olsen; Jayden and Cali; Julia, Jacob, Kadin, and Kira. And finally, her great-great grandchildren: Camron, Katie, and Jaylen.

Viewing will begin at 2:00pm Tuesday September 1st, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center - Buffalo Ridge. Internment will be at a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Seville, Ohio.

The family of Lois would like to extend our sincere thanks to her grandson Steven for caring for her in her final years.
