Maria Gabriella Ciabattoni
November 8, 1946 — April 14, 2026
Maria Gabriella Ciabattoni passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026 surrounded by those she loved and nurtured during the 79 years of her vibrant life. For the last ten years, she resided in The Villages, FL where she could be found chatting, singing and dancing with everyone while living with Alzheimer's. Her infectious smile and bright spirit will be missed by all, including the facility and hospice staff who cared for her during her final four years.
Maria was born on November 8 in Linguaglossa, Italy - a small town at the base of Mount Etna on the isle of Sicily and was named after her fearless aunt, Sister Maria Gabriella, a catholic nun. Maria journeyed to this country with her older sister and mother at the tender age of nine and settled in Syracuse, NY.
Maria worked as an in-demand hairdresser for almost 50 years, progressing from stylist to manager to salon owner in that time. In 1991 she opened her own successful salon and operated it until her retirement in 2016. Maria was passionate about her work and her team, and loved to engage with her customers and listen to their stories as a trusted friend. She was an avid flower gardener, boater, traveler, and a talented chef who loved to host parties in her custom-designed, river-front home. She especially enjoyed hosting holiday and special-event celebrations for her multigenerational, international family.
Maria met her husband, Pete, on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. They married in 1968 and made their home in the Syracuse area until their retirement move to The Villages in 2016. Together they raised two children, David (Dianne) and Peter (Robyn) and enjoyed two grand-children, Nicholas and Nathan, who loved her dearly.
Maria is survived by her husband, sons, grandchildren, sister (Tina), eight nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.
A private burial will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers or gifts please consider donating to the Cornerstone Hospice Organization ( https://cornerstonehospice.org/ ) or the Alzheimer's Association ( www.alz.org ).
