Maria Kloiber
Nov 19, 1935 — Oct 1, 2026
Maria Kreszentia “Cindy” Kloiber, passed away on October 1, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love and treasured memories with the many lives she touched along the way.
Cindy was born on November 19, 1935, in Kempten, Allgäu, Germany, one of four daughters of Jakob and Johanna Magdalena Wittmann. In Germany she was a gymnast and performed ballet. At 20 years old, she courageously left her homeland and began a new life in the United States, settling in Danbury, Connecticut. That journey was the beginning of a life filled with family, friendship, hard work, music, laughter, and love. Whether in Connecticut, Germany, or Florida, family was always at the center of her heart.
Cindy worked as a school bus driver for the New Fairfield School System and later at Danbury Hospital in Central Supply and Material Inventory Control. She was proud of the work she did, but the roles that meant the most to her were the ones she held within her family, being a mother and a grandmother.
After retirement, Cindy fulfilled a dream she had carried in her heart for years—to retire to The Villages in Florida. There, she was surrounded by her beloved sisters and enjoyed a wonderful new chapter of life. She embraced the community and its activities, including the German Club and Polish Club, the Villager G.A . Club and Dance Group named the Schatzies, making friends and continuing to share her warmth and good humor with those around her.
Cindy leaves behind her sister, Irmgard Confortini, her niece Evelyn Pahl and her brother-in-law Stephen Confortini; her daughter, Christine Shapter; her son, Alfred Kloiber and his wife, Melanie; and her grandchildren, Jack Norman-Shapter and Anna Norman-Shapter, and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Johanna Schmid, who remained in Germany, and Katharina Hepp.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday November 12th, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home in The Villages, FL
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Cornerstone Hospice for the compassion and care provided to Cindy.
