Maxine E. Crouse

Maxine Elizabeth Crouse, age 84, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026.

Maxine was born on July 18, 1942, in Metter, Georgia, to Maxwell and Kathleen Cavin. She spent many years working for South Portland Middle Schools before later working for Atlas Roofing, from which she retired in 2006.

In 1965, Maxine married the love of her life, Robert Crouse. Together, they shared 46 years of wonderful memories and raised two sons, Joe and Eric.

Maxine lived a life filled with curiosity, adventure, and a love of learning. She traveled extensively throughout her life and had the unique experience of living abroad in both Japan and England. She was an avid reader and gardener and was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church.

Maxine will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and genuine love for others. She had a special way of making people feel cared for, and her gentle spirit touched the lives of many who knew her.

She is survived by her two sons, Joe Crouse (Amber) and Eric Crouse; her grandchildren, RJ and Avery; her loving aunt, Martha Bird; her brothers, Michael Cavin (Joy) and Bill Cavin (Sharon); and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Crouse; her parents, Maxwell and Kathleen Cavin; and her longtime companion, Gene Stief.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful team and caregivers at Freedom Point Memory Care in The Villages for the loving patience, comfort, and compassionate care they provided Maxine during her final years. Many of the caregivers received daily hugs from Maxine, a simple gesture that reflected the love and appreciation she had for those caring for her. She truly was thankful for their care.

The family is also deeply grateful to the VITAS Hospice team, who provided compassionate care and comfort to Maxine during her final days.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Details will be announced when arrangements are finalized.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Maxine.

Maxine will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
