Shirley Aldine Bostwick
d. Jul 16, 2026
Shirley Bostwick (née Lagergren), age 97, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, in Federal Way, Washington. Born in Puyallup, Washington, Shirley lived a long and fulfilling life marked by love, family, and community.
Shirley grew up in Puyallup as the seventh of nine children. She attended Puyallup Public Schools and graduated from Puyallup High School in 1947. Throughout her life, she remained deeply connected to her roots and cherished the bonds she shared with her siblings. Her youngest sister, Bette Beasley, survives her as the last of their close-knit family.
Shirley’s life was enriched by her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She married Lawrence Preston and together they welcomed three children: Ken, Doug, and Kathy. Later in life, Shirley found love again with Jim Bostwick. Through their marriage, she embraced five additional children, Jake, Jill, Frannie, Mitch, and Pete, whom she loved as her own. Shirley’s family grew to include numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren numerous nieces, and nephews, who were a source of immense pride and joy for her. Her legacy lives on through each of them.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim Bostwick; her son Ken; her brothers John, Chuck, Verne, and Ron; and her sisters Berniece, Fern, and Dorothy. Though their absence was deeply felt throughout her life, Shirley carried their memories close to her heart.
A woman of many talents and interests, Shirley embraced life’s simple pleasures with enthusiasm. She was an avid bowler who enjoyed the camaraderie of the lanes and spent countless hours crocheting beautiful creations for loved ones. She delighted in the thrill of yard sales, both finding treasures and hosting them herself and found joy in connecting with others through these shared experiences.
For 57 years, Shirley was a proud member of the Puyallup Eagles Auxiliary. The fellowship she found there brought her lasting friendships and a sense of community that she treasured deeply. Alongside Jim, she also enjoyed being part of the Puyallup Eagles RV Club. Together they embarked on camping adventures that created cherished memories with dear friends. Winters spent in Yuma, Arizona were among Shirley’s favorite times; there she basked in sunshine and warmth while surrounded by friends who became like family.
Faith played an important role in Shirley’s life. Baptized Lutheran as a child, she carried those values with her throughout her journey; a quiet strength that guided her actions and relationships.
Shirley will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family and friends. Her quiet strength served as an anchor for those around her while her kindness touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire generations to come.
May Shirley's memory bring comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing her. A Funeral Service will be held on July 31, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Hill Funeral Home 819 River Road.
