Barbara Ellen Gill

Apr 7, 1945 — Jul 15, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara "Bobbie" Ellen Gill, who peacefully passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on April 7, 1945, in Eloise, Florida, Barbara lived a life rooted in love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She had a warm smile that could brighten any room and a heart that welcomed everyone she met. Her compassion, strength, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Barbara dedicated 38 years of service to the Polk County School Board, where she worked in the cafeteria at Inwood Elementary School. She took great pride in serving generations of students and staff, greeting everyone with a warm smile, a kind word, and a caring heart. Her dedication, strong work ethic, and genuine love for the children made her a familiar and cherished presence at the school, and the lives she touched there will long remember her kindness. Outside of work, Barbara embraced life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time fishing, enjoyed playing bingo with family and friends, and was known for baking delicious sweet treats that brought smiles to everyone around her. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether sharing family meals, celebrating holidays, or simply enjoying each other's company, Bobbie treasured every moment with the people she loved. She is survived by her children, John "Jack" Joseph Gill III (Kim), Barbara "Barbie" Ellen Smith (Len), and Christopher "Chris" James Gill (Jessica). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Christopher "Cody" Gill (Morgan), Summer Nichole Akins, Justin Riley Gill (Shelby), and Dalton Andrew Akins (Taylor); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Payton Christopher Davison, Ella James Akins, Jack Charles Gill, Baker Riley Gill, and Charlee Ellen Akins. She is also survived by extended family members and many dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, John Joseph Gill Jr.; her parents, Albert and Estelle Johnson; her brothers, Richard, Larry, Charlie, and Albert Johnson; and her sisters, Nancy and Katie. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara's life on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Kersey Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
