Etta Eloise Chewning

Etta Eloise (Ellie) Chewning, age 92, of Auburndale, Florida, passed on July 20, 2026.

She was born June 9, 1934, in Houston County, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her son David Michael Chewning, friend and ex-husband, Worthington Chewning, brothers Herbert and Hurley Whiddon, and sister Sylvia Dian Whiddon. Ellie is survived by sons Wayne L. (Sandie), Brantley I. and Philip A. Chewning, and sister Joyce Sheffield (Denny).

She is also survived by grandsons Ryan (Stephanie) and Russel (Juanita) Chewning, granddaughters Carrie Bateman (Chris), Jessica Gonzalez (Nick), Melissa C Chewning, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ellie was known for her love of family, animals, gardening, and her God. Church was her social, as well as spiritual love. She could be found enjoying her many flowers and plants, day or night. Ellie was musically inclined and a natural artist as well. She would tackle any project, including building a double set of bunkbeds for her boys. Her friendliness, rambunctious spirit and streak of stubbornness, known to many who knew her, were just some of the things that she was loved for.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at Kersey Funeral Home, Auburndale Fl, at 11:00 am. A gathering to celebrate her life will be at Wayne and Sandie's home following graveside services, phone number 863-651-2751.
