The solace he found outdoors spoke to his appreciation for nature’s quiet beauty, and he took special pride in caring for his yard.

On August 16, 2026, Tony Gainey of Crystal River departed this world at the age of 81, leaving a legacy of kindness, warmth, gentleness, and hard work that will be cherished by all who knew him. Born on November 13, 1944, in Samson, Alabama, Tony's journey touched the lives of many, nurturing fond memories that will remain alive in the hearts of his family and friends.

Tony was a man who lived by example, inspiring others through both his actions and his spirit. Those lucky enough to know him recall his infectious love for life, which was evident in the way he would lighten a room with a well-timed joke, always ready with a smile and a kind word. He had a heart that welcomed all and hands eager to help.

Service to others came naturally to Tony. answering his country’s call, he served in the Army during a time when courage was demanded daily. From 1966 to 1969, Tony braved the challenges of Vietnam, embodying selflessness and patriotism throughout his years in uniform. This dedication to serving did not end with his military career; rather, it became a cornerstone of who he was.

Tony’s joy was found in the simple pleasures of life. He loved to build things—his hands crafted birdhouses, each one delighting the children and grandchildren who watched, learning patience and care from his example. The solace he found outdoors spoke to his appreciation for nature’s quiet beauty, and he took special pride in caring for his yard. Every trimmed blade of grass and perfectly placed birdhouse bore his personal touch and thoughtful attention.

What mattered most to Tony was the family he so deeply loved and the bonds he nurtured. Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Allen & Kim Gainey, Brian Gainey & Lou DiFabio,Tony & Marla Gainey; his sister, Barbara Edge; his granddaughters, Megan Spruell and Morgan Kelly; and his great-grandchildren, Mason Spruell, Camden Spruell, Veda Kelly, and Rayden Kelly.
