Wanda Jeanne Simundson

Dec 4, 1932 — Aug 2, 2026

Wanda “Jeanne” Simundson, 93, was born in rural Arkansas on December 4, 1932, the third of six children of Allen Edward Kinder and Emelie Elizabeth “Millie” Enders Kinder.

In 1953, Jeanne married her high school sweetheart, Luther Simundson. Together they raised four children. She worked as a billing clerk at various freight companies for many years. Following a well-deserved retirement, Jeanne & Lu enjoyed travelling, camping, gardening and visiting family. They were both active in many activities at Grace Lutheran Church, including choir and quilting, and Jeanne spent her free time sewing, crocheting, and doing puzzles of all kinds. She had a beautiful voice and could be relied upon to provide harmony to whatever was being sung.

In 2018, Luther & Jeanne moved from their home in SeaTac to Judson Park Retirement Community in Des Moines, WA, where family and friends helped Lu and Jeanne celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in 2023, two months prior to Luther’s death.

Jeanne passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026 at Judson Park Skilled Nursing Center where she received exceptional care.

She leaves behind a large loving family including children: Gary Simundson (Allan Oliver),

Deborah Iwen (Will), Rod Simundson (Kathy), and Julie Nagy (Bob); grandchildren: Ben Iwen (Darcy), Jake Iwen (Andi), Karla Simundson (Ezekiel Duncan), Laura Wilson (Wes), Drew Nagy (Kade Davidson), Hanna Nagy (Brian Gentry), and Erika Nagy; great-grandchildren: Bella, Max, Alina, Colbein, Mason, Abigail, Ethan, McKinley, Mackenzie, and Cameron. They already miss her delicious desserts, especially her famous rhubarb cake!

If you wish to make a charitable donation in Jeanne’s memory, please consider the Judson Park Team Member Appreciation Fund (TMAF in memo line). Judson Park’s address is 23600 Marine View Dr. S., Des Moines, WA 98198.

Jeanne’s memorial service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, August 29th, at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines.
