In Loving Memory of Richard E. Yeakel
December 15, 1943 – June 10, 2026
It is with profound sadness, yet deep gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Richard Edward Yeakel on June 10, 2026. Richard was born on December 15, 1943, in North Hollywood, California.
A devoted man of faith, loving husband, father, and friend to many, Richard lived a life marked by integrity, compassion, and unwavering devotion to God and family. His faith was not merely something he professed—it guided the way he served others, faced challenges, and celebrated life's blessings. He was guided by a strong moral compass and a firm belief in his closest companion, His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Richard earned a degree in Police Science and Administration from California State University, Los Angeles, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in security and public service. His commitment to leadership and professional growth led him to graduate from the United States Air Force Air Command and Staff College and the FBI National Academy.
As a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force Security Operations, Captain Richard E. Yeakel served his country with honor, professionalism, and unwavering dedication, including active service in Vietnam. The values he embraced during his military career—discipline, courage, and integrity—remained guiding principles throughout his life.
Following his military service, Richard continued his work in security operations before embarking on a successful entrepreneurial journey. Never content to stand still, he pursued opportunities across multiple industries, including real estate, insurance, golf, and the restaurant business. His entrepreneurial spirit, strong work ethic, and ability to connect with people contributed to his success and earned him the respect of colleagues, partners, and friends alike.
Richard was actively involved in numerous community organizations, including the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Granada Hills, Granada Hills Community Hospital Foundation, and We Share, an organization dedicated to feeding those in need. He believed deeply in serving others and giving back to his community.
Family and friendships were among Richard's greatest joys. He loved spending time with family and dear friends, walking, golfing, cycling, grilling and cooking, gardening, and traveling. He especially cherished the lifelong friendships he maintained from his kindergarten class of 1949 at St. Frances de Sales in Sherman Oaks, California. Many of those same friends continued alongside him through his years at Notre Dame High School. Over the decades, these treasured friendships became family and remained a cherished part of his life.
Throughout his life, Richard achieved much through hard work, determination, and a commitment to excellence. Whether in his profession, his community, or among those who knew him personally, he earned the respect and admiration of many. Yet those closest to him will remember not only his accomplishments, but also his kindness, wisdom, generosity, and steadfast love.
He took great pride in his family and found joy in supporting, encouraging, and caring for those he loved. His presence brought comfort, strength, laughter, and guidance to countless lives.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Kathleen; his daughter, Christina, and her husband, Keith; and many dear family members and friends who became family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Mildred Yeakel; his brother, Gary Yeakel; and sister-in-law, Geri Yeakel.
Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in the faith he cherished and in the legacy he leaves behind. His life was a testament to God's grace, and his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
While his accomplishments were many, those who knew him best will remember him not for his titles or achievements, but for his faith, his character, and the love he shared with his family. He was a man who believed deeply in God, valued honesty and hard work, and sought to leave every person and every place better than he found them.
His legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the lives he touched, and the example he set of a life lived with purpose, conviction, and faith.
He will be loved always, forever, and for all eternity. Until we meet again.
