Feb 3, 1951 — Jul 30, 2026

Daniel Santos, 75, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026.Born on February 3, 1951, in El Paso, Texas, Daniel lived a life defined by service, dedication, curiosity, craftsmanship, and unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose wit, kindness, and ingenuity touched the lives of all who knew him.

Daniel is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor R. Santos, with whom he shared an extraordinary love story. After knowing each other for only thirteen days, Daniel and Eleanor married and built a life together that spanned more than 54½ years. Together they created a marriage filled with love, laughter, adventure, and companionship. They traveled the world side by side, making cherished memories in Ireland, England, Greece, Spain, Mexico, and Jamaica. Daniel especially loved cruising and exploring new destinations with the love of his life.

He was the proud father of Daniel J. Santos, Theresa M. Myers, and Maria A. Knight. His greatest joy was his family, and he leaves behind a legacy that continues through his ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.

Daniel is also survived by his brothers, George Santos and Eddie Santos, and his younger sister, Terri, along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

A lifelong learner and dedicated professional, Daniel earned a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, spending four years as a mechanic during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his military service, he embarked on an accomplished 31½-year career with the Department of Defense. Throughout his tenure, he served in a variety of roles, including Journeyman Sailmaker, Ship Scheduler, and Financial Analyst, bringing diligence, expertise, and integrity to every position he held.

Daniel had an appreciation for both craftsmanship and creativity. He loved all types of music, with a special fondness for The Beatles. He enjoyed playing guitar and had recently begun learning the ukulele. His many hobbies reflected his inquisitive nature and love of building and creating. He spent countless enjoyable hours assembling intricate 3D models, working with carving lasers, woodworking, and fixing things around the house. If something was broken, Daniel could almost always find a way to repair it. He believed in using both his hands and his mind, and there was little he could not figure out with enough patience and determination.

He also enjoyed classic movies and television from the Golden Age of cinema and television, often sharing his favorites with family and friends. Whether he was working on a project, listening to music, watching an old film, or planning the next adventure with Eleanor, Daniel approached life with enthusiasm and purpose.

Those who knew Daniel will remember him as a man who was funny, thoughtful, engaging, and remarkably thorough. He had a gift for making others feel welcome, a knack for solving problems, and a genuine interest in the people around him. His quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A committal service with military honors will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Daniel's life and service.

Following the service, a small gathering of close friends and family will be held at his home.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to lung cancer research in Daniel's name.

Daniel's life was one of service, creativity, adventure, and love. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is gone from our sight, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely will remain forever.

"A life well lived leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that endure for generations."
