Steven Eugene Unruh

Aug 27, 1964 — Oct 29, 2026

Steven Eugene Unruh was born to D. Eugene and Salome Loewen Unruh on August 27,

1964, in McPherson, Kansas. He passed away on October 29, 2026, at St. Alphonsus Regional

Medical Center, Boise, Idaho. Steve’s later life was a steep and rocky climb in the way of physical

pain and trouble. He joined the Angel choir after a short, intense battle with staph infection. He

was 62 years old.

His family moved to California in 1967, where he attended public school until 7th grade

and then finished his education at the new River Valley Christian School in Glenn, California.

He was baptized on March 20, 1977, at Glenn, California. He married LeAnn Joy Koehn,

on April 28, 1985, at Lone Tree, Kansas. They shared forty-one years together and were blessed

with three children.

Steve was Uncle Steve to many. Singing was a lifelong love, including years of leading

songs. He loved children and recently was inspired to teach music at school. This was a great

source of joy to him.

He was captivated by nature. When he was younger, he enjoyed hiking, camping, and

fishing. Creeks, rivers and waterfalls were treasures to be discovered and pointed out. Food was

an adventure for him; he was never shy about trying ethnic foods and sometimes recreated

them at home. He was always ready to experiment, tweak, taste, and perfect a dish. He loved

sharing his creations with others. Trucking was his passion. Over the years he dabbled in other

professions, but he always came back to trucks or something involving trucks.

Mom and Dad spent three and a half years at the Newfoundland CPS unit as

houseparents, putting their heart and soul into it. Nineteen young men found a special place in

their hearts. Many lifelong friendships were made, and Newfoundland remained one of the very

meaningful experiences Dad referred to often.

We are thankful for the clear testimony of his salvation. Left to cherish his

memory are his wife, LeAnn, Ontario, Oregon, three children, Quenton and Abigail Unruh, Little

Falls, New York, Joni and Kale Giesbrecht, Princeton, California, Althea and Caleb Crider,

Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, and eight grandchildren. His siblings, Franklin and Karen Unruh,

Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, Jeanette and Keith Koehn, New Plymouth, Idaho, Delbert and Jennifer

Unruh, Hazelton, Idaho, sister-in-law Becky and Calvin Dyck, Ballico, California, brother-in-law

Howard and Regina Giesbrecht, West Valley, California. Close family friend Fred Stocking,

Oroville, California, and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, older

brother Lauren, sister Bonita, niece SueVaun, great nephew Jonathan, and infant grandson

Jefferson
