In Loving Memory of John “Skip” Skairus

Skip Skairus, 56, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, passed away on October 5, 2026.

Skip was born on November 1, 1969, in Manhattan, New York. He lived in Garwood, New Jersey, until the age of 11, when he and his family moved to the Tampa Bay area. It was there that he spent the remainder of his remarkable life.

A graduate of Land O’ Lakes High School and the University of South Florida, Skip built a successful career in commercial banking, serving Pasco County and the surrounding communities. He provided dedicated leadership at SouthState Bank as Regional President and Senior Vice President, but his commitment to the community extended far beyond his professional role.

Skip served on the Board of Directors of Gulfside Hospice and the Foundation Board of AdventHealth Dade City. He supported the Pasco County Economic Development Council and the Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce and was involved with Leadership Tampa Bay. Through these organizations and his many other community endeavors, Skip made a lasting difference in the region he loved. There was a reason Skip was named “Best All-Around” in high school.

Those who knew and loved Skip will remember his passion for sports, his more-than-decent drumming skills, his quick wit and sharp intellect, and, perhaps most of all, his endless love and pride in his girls.

When you were with Skip, you could not help but be impacted by him. Whether you lost your breath to his contagious laughter, got lifted up by one of his hallmark bear hugs, or just felt the warmth of his larger-than-life presence, you were experiencing something special. Everyone whose lives he touched will remember him forever.

Skip is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lynn; his two daughters, Marielle and Jillian; his brother, Matthew (Cristi) Skairus; his nieces, nephews, uncles, and cousins; Lynn’s family, who loved him dearly; and his friends, many who were like family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann; his father, Raymond; and his brother, Raymond.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 17, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Dan Cannon Auditorium, 36722 County Road 52, Dade City, FL 33525.
