Josef Kriegl
March 11, 1933 — May 8, 2026
Joseph Kriegl, 93, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, in Lutz, Florida.
Born on March 11, 1933, in Lenau, he lived a remarkable life that spanned continents and generations.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959. Stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, with the 5th Battalion, 2nd Regiment, his time in service exemplified his dedication and commitment to duty. After completing his military service, Joseph embraced the opportunities of the American Dream with humility and determination.
A devoted husband to Aloisia Reichenberger-Kriegl and a loving father to his four children—Joseph M. Kriegl (Lisa), Rosemarie Kriegl Roy (Ivan - deceased), Mary Kriegl-Valladares, and Jeffrey J. Kriegl (Ana)—Joseph’s family was at the heart of everything he did. He was also a cherished grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to twelve great-grandchildren. His legacy of love and guidance will continue through them.
Joseph was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and participated in organizations such as the Legion of Mary, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Knights of Columbus. His faith guided him throughout his life and inspired those around him.
An avid gardener with a green thumb for nurturing life, Joseph found joy in cultivating beauty from the earth. As a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America, he imparted valuable lessons about leadership and character to young minds. He also enjoyed playing cards with the Bohemian Club and treasured moments spent with family—whether paddling on the lake or sharing laughter over homegrown oranges.
Joseph’s journey took him from Bavaria to Chicago and eventually to Florida—a testament to his adaptability and resilience. He was a humble man who surpassed expectations while remaining selfless and charitable. His family fondly remembers him as an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and devout Catholic who left behind a roadmap for living a meaningful life.
As one grandson aptly put it: “Your legacy will live on down here. We’ll see to it.” Joseph’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Psalm 16 reminds us: “You will show me the path of life; the joys that await me in your presence.” Joseph has now found peace in God’s eternal embrace—a sad day here on earth but a joyous one in heaven.
Godspeed, Josef. May your memory bring comfort to all who loved you until we meet again.
