Katherine M. Briody

Aug 20, 1963 — Sep 8, 2026

Katherine M. Briody (Melanson), age 63, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, passed away on September 8, 2026, leaving behind a profound legacy of service, kindness, and boundless energy. Born in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on August 20, 1963, Katherine lived a life driven by a fierce ambition to make the world a better place.

She proudly entered the United States Air Force on May 24, 1989. Over a distinguished twenty-year career, she rose through the ranks, attending the Senior NCO Academy in 2006 and mastering complex fields like Bioenvironmental Engineering. Her exceptional leadership and dedication were recognized when she was awarded the First Aerospace Medicine Squadron SNCO of the Year for 2005. Her exemplary service earned numerous high honors, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following her retirement from the military in 2009, Katherine’s mission of service did not end. Guided by her generous and loyal heart, she dedicated over a decade to helping homeless veterans secure housing through St. Vincent de Paul CAREs, serving as a Peer Mentor and Housing Navigator. Her ambition was matched only by her lifelong love of learning, culminating in her graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Jones International University in 2014.

Katherine brought immense joy and humor to everyone who knew her. She loved the thrill of fast cars, the beauty of gardening and bumble bees, and traveling the world to explore new cultures. She was happiest collecting shells at the beach, camping, and watching the sunrise with a hot cup of coffee surrounded by her family, friends, and beloved animals.

Katherine is survived by her devoted husband, Anthony J. Briody; her children, Konnor T. Briody and Shelby G. Briody; her stepchildren, Stephanie M. Roberts and Zachary K. Briody; and her sisters, Kim M. Cutler, Karen M. Midgett, and Karol M. Tetteron. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lloyd Wilber Melanson and Minty Corey Melanson, and her brother, Kacey J. Melanson.
