Susan H Richards

Oct 3, 1942 — Oct 12, 2026

Susan H. Richards came into the world on October 3, 1942, and passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026. And in the 84 years between, she lived a life filled with love, laughter, family, music, and a passion for exploring the world with her partner in life, Ed.

Born in Jersey City, Susan grew up in West New York, NJ, where she attended Memorial High School, before continuing her education at Douglass College. She later worked at McGraw Hill in New York City, and Plasma-Therm in NJ.

A devoted mom, wife, and grandmother, Susan was known for her quick wit and sharp sense of humor, and an endless collection of wry observations, or “Mom-isms”. She was a wonderful cook, a formidable mahjong player, and a dangerous Scrabble opponent. She excelled at Wordle, and the New York Times crossword was a daily activity.

Music and theater were among her great loves. She enjoyed singing and performing in community theater, and never passed up an opportunity to see a Broadway show or a local production, and loved going to concerts.

Susan and Ed shared a love of travel that took them all over the world. Whether photographing wildlife on an African safari, exploring Machu Picchu, or visiting a sheep farm in New Zealand, she was always eager for the next adventure. And more than simply visiting destinations, she treasured opportunities to experience different cultures, and learn about the lives of those who called those places home.

Susan also gave generously of her time to others, serving as a volunteer guardian ad litem advocating for children in foster care, and volunteering at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL.

She is survived by her loving husband Ed, children Tracy, Laura, Christopher, Matthew, and Sharon, grandchildren Jacob, Evan, Sebastian, and Cora, her sister and brother-in-law Doris and Tony, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

As memories of her resurface in the little moments of everyday life, we will always be reminded that she left a part of herself in each of us.

A Visitation is scheduled on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 3:00pm, with the Celebration of Life Service starting at 4:00pm at Loyless Funeral Homes, 5310 Land O' Lakes Blvd., Land O' Lakes, Florida 34639.
