Marie "Rea" Batastini
Jul 4, 1937 — Sep 8, 2026
Marie Batastini (known lovingly as "Rea" to her many family, friends, and neighbors), passed peacefully in her sleep on September 8th, 2026. She is survived by her sister, Diane Logan Sr.
Born on July 4th, 1937, to Caterina and Silvio Batastini, Marie lived her entire life in Santa Barbara, California. She cared for her parents lovingly until their passing.
Marie found immense joy in creating things and sharing her gifts with others, and she loved gardening. Her beautiful yard was (and still is) a bright and peaceful place to visit for family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and neighborhood children made countless memories playing in the garden, running through the sprinklers, and flying high on the tree swing. Many of these neighborhood children (now adults) still stop by to visit (often with their own children) to reminisce.
Marie volunteered at the Braille Institute crafting books for the visually impaired. She treasured her friendships and experiences while quilting through the Santa Barbara Adult Education Sewing classes. She used her quilting skills to craft unique, beautiful quilts for loved ones.
Her West Side community members, friends, and neighbors cherished her warmth, kindness, and lifelong friendship.
Her love for her family was endless. She never missed a birthday or special occasion. Her handcrafted cards-filled with photographs, heartfelt words, and love-made each person feel truly special.
Marie touched countless lives through her kindness and generosity. Her loving, curious, and creative spirit will live on through her heartfelt gifts, her everlasting dedication to family and friends, and most importantly, through everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. She will be deeply missed by all.
Marie's family is eternally grateful for the wonderful support from Paloma and the rest of the care team at Sarah House. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Sarah House: https://www.sarahhousesb.com/donate.
