Patricia Anne Skehan

Patricia Anne Skehan, known as Pat or Patty, was born January 10, 1941, to Margaret Ann Woods Skehan (deceased) and Francis Edward Skehan (deceased) at St. Francis Hospital in Santa Barbara. Her father, Francis, was born in Chicago, Illinois, and traveled with his brother and parents to Santa Barbara. He worked with the Santa Barbara Citrus Exchange (Sunkist) distributing their produce across the country. Her mother, Margaret, was born and raised in Santa Barbara. Margaret was an organist at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Her sisters were Mary Margaret Skehan Brown and Kathryn Frances Skehan. Mary Margaret (deceased) married Robert John Brown (deceased), and they had 8 children, of which 7 are alive, and had 9 grandchildren. Their eighth child, Marilee Patricia Augustine, is deceased. Mary Margaret and Patricia attended Dolores Catholic Elementary School in Santa Barbara and then attended Catholic High School, with Patty being the class of 1958.

After graduation, Patty attended Santa Barbara Business School. She worked happily at Citizens Savings and Loan for years. Patty worked for years at UCSB in the education department and prior to that in the UCLA transportation department and the administration department.

She then retired and spent her retirement happily enjoying her family and nieces and nephews, along with various animals. She had a cute apartment but moved home when her parents got ill. She and her sister, Kathy, enjoyed many years in that dear house taking care of her parents and then others until Patty’s recent passing. She broke her back badly in a toboggan ride in her late 20s but continued to keep a positive attitude and enjoy life.

Patty made wonderful friends over the years. She was a great square dancer and ballroom dancer. She played guitar well and played piano by ear. She and all her sisters loved to sing together and to harmonize. Patty was also a very good tennis player and was an excellent swimmer. She loved the beach and beach parties. Patty was such a fun person with a great sense of humor. She was a wonderful business person, cook, seamstress, gardener, etc. We love her so much and miss dear Patty so much.
