James O. Peterman, Sr.

James O. Peterman Sr., age 82, of Stratford, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 8, 2026.

James, known as Jim by family and friends, grew up in the Meadows in Southwest Philly and then moved to Washington Twp. His senior year of high school.

Nothing meant more to Jim than his family. He never missed an opportunity to support his children and grandchildren, whether cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, attending dance recitals, or watching school plays, you could spot him in a button-down shirt, dungarees, and a baseball hat. Known lovingly as “Pop Pete,” he treasured time spent with his grandchildren.

A devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan, Jim especially loved Football Sundays, a beloved family ritual. Everyone was always welcome at the Peterman house. No matter the score of the game, those moments became some of his most cherished memories.

Jim had simple pleasures in life. He looked forward to enjoying fresh jersey tomatoes in the summer, watching the Philadelphia Phillies, and taking drives in his pickup truck. A dependable handyman, he was the first call to fix any problem around the house and took pride in his home improvements. He was honest in his words, modest in needs, and happiest surrounded by the people he loved.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mercedes Peterman (née Del Quadro); his loving children, James O. Peterman, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, and Susan Sobkowiak and her husband James; his dear brothers, Edward Peterman and his wife Nancy, and Robert Peterman and his wife Karen; and his adored grandchildren, Jimmy Peterman, Sydney Sobkowiak, Jack Peterman, Alex Sobkowiak, Jessica Peterman, and Jillian Peterman. He is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love of family.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate James’ life on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 10 AM to 12 PM at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ 08080. Funeral Service will begin at 12 PM noon.
