Robert Joseph Scafidi “Bobby”

Robert Joseph Scafidi, affectionately known as “Bobby,” 81 of Turnersville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Bobby later moved to Turnersville with his beloved wife, Marie, and their children. Together, they built a life rooted in love, hard work, family, and countless memories that will live on for generations.

Bobby was a proud ironworker and dedicated member of Iron Workers Local Union #405 in Philadelphia, where he worked for 42 years. He received his International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Local Union #405 card in December of 1965. Joining the union became the beginning of a remarkable chapter in Bobby and Marie’s life, providing the foundation that allowed them to build their future and raise their family.

Bobby was, above all else, a family man. His love for Marie was at the heart of everything he did. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, laughter, hard work, summers at their Ocean City home, and memories that will forever be treasured by their family. Marie was not only his wife, but his partner in building the life they dreamed of and the family they cherished so deeply.

To know Bobby was to know his incredible personality. He truly was the “Life of all parties.” He had a gift for making people laugh, feel welcome, and forget their worries, even if only for a little while. During summers in Ocean City, he became locally known as “Bob on the Beach,” a name that perfectly captured the fun, warmth, and larger-than-life spirit that followed him wherever he went.

As the years passed, Bobby’s greatest joy became watching his family grow. He was a proud grandfather, but becoming a “G-Pop” to his great-grandchildren brought him a special kind of happiness. He treasured every moment with them, and they adored him in return. His love was evident in the way he talked about them, spent time with them, and made each of them feel special. To his family, he wasn't simply G-Pop—he was a source of laughter, comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love.

Family was the most important thing in Bobby’s life, and the love he gave so freely is perhaps his greatest legacy. He showed those around him that a life well lived is measured not by what you have, but by the people you love, the memories you create, and the difference you make in the lives of others.

Bobby also cherished his time with his golfing buddies, spending many hours on the greens while making friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was a gigantic Eagles and Phillies fan and took particular pride in the fact that his own hands helped build the places where generations of Philadelphia sports fans would gather. As an ironworker, he helped build both Veterans Stadium and Citizens Bank Park, installing the rebar that helped provide the foundation for countless memories made by Eagles and Phillies fans.

He was deeply patriotic and never hesitated to lend a hand to someone in need. Helping others came naturally to Bobby. Whether through his work, his friendships, or simply being there when someone needed him, he left people feeling a little better than when he found them.

Bobby leaves behind a legacy built on love, laughter, hard work, loyalty, and family. His stories will be told, his jokes will be remembered, and the lessons he taught through the way he lived will continue through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Most of all, Bobby will be remembered for the love he gave to Marie and his family. That love was the foundation of his life, and it will remain the foundation of the family he leaves behind.

His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on...in the laughter around family gatherings, in the memories of summers at the beach, on the golf course, in the roar of Philadelphia sports fans, and most especially in the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to call him husband, Dad, Pop, G-Pop, brother, uncle, friend, and loved one.

Rest peacefully, Bobby. Your family will carry your love with them always.

Beloved grandfather to Giavanna Aquilino, Dante Scafidi (Giovanna), Brooke-Linh Aquilino, Robert “Bobby” Aquilino (Oliva) & Chrystian Aquilino (Alessandra). Great grandfather of Catalina Marie, Louie Robert, Luciana-Linh and Lyla Bleu Aqulino.

Family and friends are invited to Bobby’s visitation on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Church of the Holy Family, 226 Hurffville-Crosskeys Road, Sewell, NJ. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:15 AM. Entombment will follow at All Saint’s Cemetery, 1300 Tuckahoe Road, Newfield.
