Al Afflerbach
January 20, 1947 — June 9, 2026
Al F. Afflerbach, a resident of Woodbury Heights, New Jersey, passed away peacefully with his loving family on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. He was 79.
Legacy
Al was an avid car enthusiast and collector who could spend hours talking about engines, craftsmanship, and the thrill of the open road. He was a championship pool player, collected antique watches, and enjoyed listening to Opera. When he wasn't pursuing one of his many interests, he could often be found in the garage, always working on a project and keeping himself busy. Known for his generous heart, he would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He had a special love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the freedom they represented. Though he was a gentle giant in stature, it was his kindness, loyalty, and willingness to help others that left the greatest impression on everyone who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and larger-than-life presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. One thing great about Al was his expression of passion through storytelling and he was an impressive driver of large equipment with amazing skill.
Family
He is the beloved husband of 35 years to Laura; devoted father of Beth, Matthew (Jennifer), Peter (Jillian), Keith (Erin), Joshua (Sarah), Alex, Samuel and Robert; dear brother to Donald (Grace); loving grandfather of Gabrielle (Brent), Savannah (Nick), Justin, Coulter, Emma, Sadie, Luke, Stella, Levi, Brennan and Benjamin; cherished great grandfather to Penelope, Vivienne, Duke, Oliver, and Raffael. Al is predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Kathleen, and his siblings, Shirley (Buck), Joe, James and Margaret. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
