Claire F. Essig

Claire Frances Essig, 94, of West Deptford, NJ passed away in her home on June 25, 2026.

A lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Woodbury, she found strength, purpose, and joy in her faith. Her connection to the church spanned her entire life, and she generously gave her time as a volunteer. Her quiet acts of kindness and unwavering commitment to her parish reflected the compassion and generosity that defined her character.

Claire believed deeply in the importance of helping others. She was an active volunteer and enjoyed the fellowship of the Woodbury Kiwanis Club. Whether through volunteer service or a simple conversation, she made people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for.

Family was at the center of everything she did. She was a devoted wife who cherished traveling with her husband once their children were grown, creating treasured memories together. During their children's younger years, summers were marked by annual family vacations to the Villas and later to Wildwood—traditions that became cherished memories for generations.

Claire was a disciplined, incredibly strong, and remarkably organized woman whose home was filled with love and routine. Every meal was lovingly prepared from scratch, and her children fondly remember waking each morning to the sound of their mother singing while she made breakfast. She was wholly devoted to her children, encouraging them to value education, work hard, and always treat others with kindness and respect.

Claire also found joy in many of life's simple pleasures. She was an enthusiastic Philadelphia sports fan, especially of the Flyers. As a proud member of the Flyers Fan Club, her passion for the team took her on trips to Canada and the West Coast to cheer them on. She enjoyed attending performances at the Pitman Theater and the Walnut Street Theatre, appreciating the arts throughout her life.

In her later years, she remained active with regular visits to RiverWinds, believing that staying active was an important part of living well. She treasured spending time with friends over afternoon tea and was known for faithfully keeping in touch with those she loved.

Above all, she was someone who took care of everyone. Whether family, friends, neighbors, or strangers, she instinctively put others before herself. Her love was shown not through grand gestures but through countless everyday acts of generosity, devotion, and care. Her steady presence, warm heart, and unwavering faith leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Predeceased by her husband Edward Essig, Jr., her parents Harry and Edna (Loughran) Marquis.

Claire is survived by her devoted children, Claire Gibbs (the late William), Patricia Pandolfo (Peter), Edward Essig III (Lisa), Theresa Knight (Robert), Steven Essig (Julie) and Christine Ainsley (Mark); cherished grandchildren, Evan Gibbs, Patrick Pandolfo, Jessica Hampel (Thomas), Edward Essig IV, Miranda Essig (James Phillips), Rachel Hesser, Kaitlin Almazidis (Bobby), Kimberly Gismondi (Pasquale III), Jacob Essig, Dylan Essig, Eric Ainsley and Ryan Ainsley; treasured great grandchildren, Chase Hampel and Pasquale Gismondi IV. Claire is also survived by her extended family and dear friends. Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury, NJ.
