James Jay Vassalo

James Jay Vassalo, of Woodbury, NJ, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was 60 years old.

Beloved son of the late James Joseph and Kathleen Joyce (Stiles) Vassalo; Loving brother of Anita Furfari and her husband Nicholas, Frank Vassalo and his wife Dottie. Adored uncle to Nicky Furfari (Renae), Michael Furfari, Jennifer Carr and husband Patrick and great uncle to Patrick and Andrew Furfari, Charlie and Chloe Carr.“

Jay was a chef by trade and truly loved cooking. Over his career he worked at many places preparing food for others to enjoy. He worked at Wegmans, Whole Foods and several other restaurants, and eventually became a deli specialist at Walmart in Somerdale. Jay loved to cook, and some would say that he owned more chef knives and pots & pans than anyone could imagine! He absolutely loved the Yankees and convinced others to join along in his passion.

Family and friends are invited for Jay's visitation on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 11 AM to 12 PM at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096. Funeral Service will take place at 12 PM. Inurnment will take place privately with Jay’s family.
