Joanne Chaput
June 15, 1949 — June 13, 2026
Joanne Chaput, 76, of West Deptford, NJ passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, just 2 days shy of her 77th birthday.
Joanne found joy in life's simple beauties, especially while living in Virginia. She could often be found sitting on her porch, watching birds visit her yard and admiring the beauty of her gardens as they came to life each season. Butterflies and hummingbirds were her favorite, and she never tired of watching them flutter among the flowers and bird feeders.
Before moving to Virginia, Joanne was a highly respected and experienced waitress at the Colonial Diner in Woodbury, New Jersey. Known for her warm smile, strong work ethic, and genuine kindness, she touched the lives of countless customers and coworkers throughout her many years of service.
Joanne devoted her life to caring for and supporting her family. She was a loving wife and a proud mother who adored her boys wholeheartedly. Her grandchildren brought her endless happiness, and she was overjoyed to welcome her first great-grandchild December of last year. Joanne also had many grand-doggies that she affectionately cared about and made her family complete.
Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her family. She especially looked forward to family game nights, when everyone gathered around the table for friendly competition, spirited banter, and countless laughs. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, bingo and watching classic movies. Joanne also made lasting memories hosting holiday gatherings, taking trips to the shore, attending casino outings, and going to the movies. She was open to any opportunity to have fun and make her family laugh.
Family was the center of her world. Every decision she made, every gathering she planned, and every act of kindness she showed was rooted in her deep devotion to her family. Her greatest happiness came from bringing people together, and her greatest legacy is the love, warmth, and unity she leaves behind in the hearts of those who knew her.
Predeceased by her parents Walter and Leticia (Seaton) Wilson, and her husband Gerald G. Chaput, she is survived by her devoted children, Jerry Chaput, Sean Chaput and his wife Margaret, Keith Chaput and his wife Tammy, and step-son, Wade Chaput (Vicky); 6 loving grandchildren, Randy, Ashley (William Weber), Taylor, Mitchell, Kayla and Mason; and cherished great grandson, Samuel.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 9:00am until 11:00am at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury. A funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00am, followed by interment in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
In lieu of flowers please make any donations to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org/donate.
Her life was a beautiful example of unconditional love. She was the heart of her family—the one who brought everyone together, celebrated every moment, and made each person feel special. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave so freely will continue to guide, comfort, and live on through all of us.
