Loretta Simeone

Loretta Simeone, a 70-year resident of West Deptford, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 21, 2026; she was 95 years old. 

Legacy

 Loretta was born on November 17, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA to Carmen “Charles” and Rose (nee White) Mirra. She grew up in South Philadelphia surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors. Those close-knit relationships helped shape Loretta and became the foundation for the loving family she would raise of her own. Upon moving to New Jersey in her mid 20s she quickly became good friends with her neighbors Rose and Bill Ianni and Rose and Nick Turdo. These friends became more like family. She always treasured all the good times and traveling adventures they shared together.

Loretta had a true love for coffee. Anyone who stopped by to spend time with her could count on a fresh pot of coffee and her famous homemade pound cake waiting to be enjoyed. She was a kind and thoughtful soul who always thought of others and took great joy in making people feel welcome. A lifetime Phillies fan, Loretta loved cheering on her team. She also enjoyed keeping busy- cooking, baking, praying, Watching CNN news and crocheting. She loved crocheting blankets and scarves and often shared them with family and friends, giving others something handmade with love. Loretta was a devout Catholic, and her faith was an important part of her life. She faithfully prayed for the Rosary and found great comfort in her devotion. Padre Pio became one of her favorite saints, and she often turned to him in prayer. 

Family

 Loretta was the loving wife of the late Umberto “Bert” Simeone. She was the beloved mother of Donna Niemczura, Deborah Matteo (the late Frank), and Stephen Simeone (Karen); cherished grandmother of James Matteo (Michelle) and Ashley Niemczura; and proud great-grandmother of Nicholas, Nora, and Ryan. She was the dear sister of the late Florence Lamantia (Frank), the late Claire Eckert (Vince), and the late Fiorentino “Bo” Mirra. Loretta was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and held a special place in her heart for her niece, Cheryl DeCaesar. 

She will be remembered for her generous heart, strong faith, love of family, warm hospitality, and the simple joys she shared with those around her. Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched and in the love of the family she leaves behind. The family would like to thank her Bayada nurse Sierra, for the wonderful care that she gave Loretta. Her friendly and caring spirit will always be remembered. They would also like to thank the Hematology Department at Inspira Hospital in Mullica Hill. From Linda in the downstairs lobby, who greeted us every week with warmth and love, she became a Special Friend in Loretta’s life. The second-floor reception girls and the whole nursing staff were the most compassionate, caring and friendly people you ever could want for your loved one. 

Visitation will be held at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ  08096, on Wednesday, October 7, 20206 from 2 PM to 4 PM.  Funeral service will begin at 4 PM.  Burial will private with her family.
