Mary Theresa Mulholland

Jul 10, 1939 — Oct 21, 2026

Mulholland, Mary Theresa (nee Gannon), 87, formerly of West Deptford, NJ, died on Wednesday October 21, 2026.

Legacy

Theresa, as she was known, was born on July 10, 1939, in County Mayo, Ireland and grew up in Drumelly Village outside of Ballinrobe. As her mother tragically passed within her first year of life, Theresa was lovingly cared for by her father, Hugh, brothers Johnnie and Paddy, and a number of uncles, aunts, and cousins around Ballinrobe.

At the age of 17, Theresa boarded a ship in Cobh, Ireland - by herself - and emigrated to America. She quickly settled into the Irish community of Upper Darby and Saint Alice Parish. After mass one day, she met another Irish immigrant, who invited her to tea. It was there that she was introduced to the woman’s son, Francis Joseph Mulholland, whom she would wed in 1964.

Theresa and Francis moved to New Jersey and settled in West Deptford where they became deeply involved in the parish of St. Margaret.

She made several trips back to Ireland over the years, introducing Francis and their three boys to her beloved home country and the many relatives that still lived there. In fact, it was a great source of pride to know that all three of her grandchildren have visited her childhood home in Drumelly.

She was soft-spoken, sweet, kind, a good listener, and above all, treasured her family, her faith and her heritage.

Family

She is survived by her sons Francis (Caitlin), Sean (Jamie) and Brian (Donna) and grandchildren, Bradley (Lauren), Daniel and Marie. Her husband, Francis, predeceased her in 1991.
