Maureen Sweeney
Apr 19, 1957 — Oct 12, 2026
Maureen Sweeney, 69, of Wenonah, NJ, passed away at home, surrounded by loving family on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Originally from South Philly, Maureen carried that unmistakable spirit with her wherever life took her. She was bold, vibrant, and unapologetically herself. Some called her extra, others called her eclectic, but those who truly knew her understood that she was simply one of a kind. She had her own style, her own way of doing things, and a personality that could never be duplicated. She was the life of the party, the one who could turn an ordinary day into a memory, and the kind of woman who made sure there was never a dull moment when she was around.
Maureen had a love for life's simple pleasures, especially a good cup of coffee, a beautiful day at the beach, and a shopping trip that might include just one more outfit or pair of shoes. North Wildwood and Key West held special places in her heart, where the ocean breeze, the warmth of the sun, and the sound of the waves brought her happiness. She loved the sunshine by the water, but she was equally happy enjoying the comfort of a nice, cool air-conditioned room. She knew what she liked, and she wasn't afraid to enjoy it!
Her sense of adventure didn't require a destination. She loved trips to New York City, spontaneous car rides, and getting out to see new places, even if the destination was nowhere in particular. Sometimes, the best part was simply the ride, the company, and the freedom of seeing where the day would take her. And then there were her beloved cats, especially Jerzey and Dublin, who held a very special place in her heart.
Above all else, Maureen was someone who would do anything for the people she loved. She was a fierce advocate for her family and friends, always willing to stand up, speak out, and fight for those who mattered to her. She didn't just love people when it was easy or convenient; she showed up when they needed her most. She offered support without hesitation, loyalty without conditions, and kindness without keeping score. Perhaps one of her greatest gifts was that she never judged. She accepted people as they were, loved them for who they were.
Predeceased by her sisters, Eileen Marrandino and Kathleen Kaiser; nephews Nicholas and Liam, Maureen is survived by her children, Dan Sweeney and his wife, Ashley, John Sweeney and his fiancé, Adrienne Lawton (also referred to as “faux daughter in law”, according to Maureen); her brother Brian Lockrey and his wife Kate; her granddaughter, Savannah; and her nephew, Jack. Maureen is also survived by her extended family of nieces and nephews, her lifelong friends, Maureen Lott and Mary Michalak, her families at Easterseals and Headstart; and not to forget, her grand-cats, Sophie, Bessemer and Emma.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Monday, October 26, 2026 from 8:00 am until 10:00 am at McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at Holy Angels Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 86 Cooper St., Woodbury.
Interment will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
