Robert Joseph Best

August 20, 1960 – October 8, 2026

Robert Joseph Best, affectionately known as Bob or Bobby, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 8, 2026, at the age of 66.

Born on August 20, 1960, Bob was a longtime resident of West Deptford, New Jersey, and a proud graduate of West Deptford High School. He most recently resided in South Philadelphia.

Immediately following high school, Bob pursued a career in law enforcement, attending the New Jersey State Police Academy in Sea Girt, NJ, after being hired as a patrolman with the Woodbury City Police Department. He later advanced to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, where he served as a detective with dedication and pride, achieving the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 2004.

Above all else, Bob was a devoted father and Pops whose greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his son, Christopher Best (Rachel), and his daughter, Nikki Williams, along with his five cherished grandchildren, Tenley, Joshua, Gaines, Jacob, and Emma, whom he loved and adored fiercely.

Bob was born to the late John Vance Best III and Kathryn Jeanne Best (Gindlesperger). The sixth of nine children, he was part of a large family that included his siblings: the late John V. Best IV, Kathryn (John) Strony, William Best, the late Thomas Best, the late James (Laura) Best, Kelly (Fred Jr.) Vergara, Lisa Frannicola, and Joseph Best (Raeph Laughingwell). He also shared a bond with his many nieces and nephews and their children, each of whom held a very special place in his heart.

Bob had a genuine love for the warmer months of the year, always looking forward to sunshine and the simple pleasures that came with them. He was known for his unmistakable dry sense of humor, his quick wit, and a laugh that those who knew him would agree was simply the best in the world.

More than anything, Bob loved his family. His love was unwavering, his presence unforgettable, and the memories he created with those closest to him will be treasured always. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
