Elvira Rangel Lal
Sep 3, 1941 — Sep 24, 2026
Elvira Rangel Lal, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, at the age of 85. Elvira was born on September 3, 1941, in Guadalajara, Mexico. After marrying, Elvira moved to Pacific Grove, California, where she welcomed her children, James Jai, Maria Veena, Neera Monica and Diana Victoria. Elvira created a culturally diverse home where her immigrant in-laws and family were welcomed with love, humor, and respect.
Elvira had a long career as a teacher having the privilege in working with all grade and age levels. Her most satisfying positions were helping children learn English as a second language by teaching them about determination, self-respect and always being inquisitive; traits she shared with her family. With patience and compassion, she gave many students the confidence to find their voice. Teaching was more than a profession for her; it reflected her love of learning and her generous spirit.
Elvira also had a love of the arts. She painted, listened to all genres of music, and sang in a ladies’ choir. She enjoyed and played all sorts of games with any interested persons. Her surroundings and family were her inspiration in life.
Elvira was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and great-grandmother to six. She is survived by her children; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her siblings Soledad, Teresa, Chayo, Manuel and Javier.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, former students, and all who knew her.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 9:30am -10:45am at 450 Camino El Estero at Mission Mortuary followed by a graveside service at San Carlos Cemetery.
