In Loving Memory of Mariano Meno Champaco

July 3, 1948 – October 14, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mariano Meno Champaco, affectionately known as “Nanu,” of Familian Bihu, who passed away on October 14, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born in Malesso, Guam, to the late Juan C. Champaco and Antonia Chargalauf Meno, Mariano proudly served more than 20 years in the United States Army, including during the Vietnam War, and continued serving his country as a civilian engineering inspector for another 20 years.

Mariano was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice Terlaje Champaco; his son, William “Bill” Champaco; and his sisters, Daria (Albert) and Virginia “Ninang” (Frank).

He is lovingly survived by his brothers, Jesus (Rose), Juan (Rita), Frank (Carmen); and his sister, Mae (John); his sons, Andrew (Marie) and Mariano; his grandchildren, Jasmine, Tiana, Tyler (Vanessa), and Taliyah; his great-granddaughter, Eliana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nanu was a devoted family man whose greatest joy was spending time with those he loved. He was blessed to share more than 51 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Beatrice Terlaje Champaco, whose love remained in his heart throughout his life. He took great pride in being a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Few things made him happier than spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He welcomed everyone with warm hugs, generosity, and a caring spirit. Proud of his Chamorro heritage, he loved sharing traditional dishes and stories of growing up in Guam, passing those memories and traditions on to family and friends.

Mariano enjoyed playing golf and especially treasured the excitement of scoring a hole-in-one. Known affectionately as "The Flame" by his golfing buddies, he was admired for his friendship, enthusiasm, and love of the game. He was also a devoted Denver Broncos fan, and his familiar sayings, "Denver Broncos #1!" and "Okie Dokie," will forever bring smiles to those who knew him.

Nanu’s greatest legacy lives on in the family, friendships, and memories he leaves behind. Though he will be deeply missed, his warmth, laughter, and gentle presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Rest peacefully, Nanu. You will forever be loved, cherished, and remembered. Denver Broncos #1 and Okie Dokie!
