Edward T. Grych

Oct 12, 1918 — Feb 17, 2013

Edward T. Grych passed away peacefully on February 17, 2013, at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula at the age of 94.

Ed was born in Port Chester, New York, on October 12, 1918. After completing his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Ord. In 1948, he married the late Virginia Martin at the Carmel Mission.

Ed and Virginia made their home on the Monterey Peninsula, where they raised their four children: Kathryn Sparolini (Jim), Michele Mangold (Tom), Betsy Jeffers (Robin), and Tom Grych.

Ed began his career as an escrow officer and advanced to office manager and eventually district manager with Title Insurance and Trust, later TICOR.

He devoted many hours to volunteering with philanthropic organizations.

He especially enjoyed mentoring through the Junior Achievement Program of Monterey County and serving on the Grand Jury.

Ed had a lifelong love of the outdoors and recreation. He was an active member of a duck and pheasant hunting club, enjoyed traveling with Virginia, and spent many happy hours on the golf course. He was a founding member of the Pacheco Club and a former member of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club.

Ed is survived by his four children and seven grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to his caregivers, Betty Coates and Jeanetta Johnson, for their compassionate care.

A funeral Mass was held at San Carlos Cathedral.
