Edward Donald Rupple

Edward Donald Rupple, 91, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, in Eugene, Oregon. Born on July 14, 1934, Edward lived a life dedicated to education, service, and family.
Edward graduated from Eugene High School in 1952 and proudly served in the United States Air Force from June 1952 to March 1956. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at the University of Oregon, earning a Bachelor of Science in History with a minor in Education in 1960 and later a master’s degree in education in 1967.
Edward began his teaching career at Chief Moses Junior High School in Moses Lake, Washington (1960–1962), followed by Cal Young Middle School (1962–1964). After a brief tenure with Southern Pacific Railroad (1964–1966), he found his true calling at Springfield High School, where he taught American History and AP History for an impressive 30 years. His passion for teaching history and politics left a lasting impression on many of his students.
Beyond the classroom, Edward was a beloved volunteer baseball and softball coach and dedicated two decades to volunteering in local elementary schools. In 2007 he was awarded the prestigious ACE (A Champion in Education) award for his volunteer work in the Bethel School District. He supported PLAN International USA, and St. Josephs Indian School and he was known for his generosity and love of working with children. Edward was a devoted member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eugene.
Edward cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Julie Watts; grandchildren D.J. Watts and Amanda Vedder (husband Steve); and great-grandchildren Lucas, Asher, and Jules. He was predeceased by his wife Sandra Rupple; son David Rupple; parents Edward and Louise Rupple; sister Barbara Burns; and brother Jack Rupple.
Edward was an avid reader, history and political expert, gardening enthusiast, and baseball lover. Edward’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched. May his memory bring joy and comfort to all who knew him.
A Memorial Service to be held, Tuesday, June 23, 2026 1pm at Solvang Retirement Community, 1202 Jacobs Drive Eugene, OR 97402.
